OUR STATEMENT ON NO KINGS 3.0 MARCH 28, 2026

Your 50501 Central Oregon steering committee has been deep in critical, challenging, humbling, and growth-inducing conversations since No Kings on Saturday and since we released our initial statement on flag burning. As a steering committee, we recognize that we have not fully centered the breadth of lived experience within our group.
We failed to unequivocally condemn violence against a member of our BIPOC community.
Our commitment to nonviolence is one of our core values as an organization. On Saturday at No Kings, a member of our Central Oregon BIPOC community was attacked while exercising his First Amendment protected right to burn the flag as a form of protest.
We recognize that due to systemic, implicit, and explicit racism, BIPOC folks are often targeted with violence while also being blamed for violence in any situation.
In our community, we saw a Black man attacked in a crowd that was mostly white, and this mirrors a wider pattern of societal anti-Blackness. While this is a broader societal issue, we see the impact of this in our city, shaped by a long history of exclusion, anti-Black laws, and a legacy that still affects us today.
We strongly condemn the attack on our BIPOC activist colleague on Saturday.
We are committed to continuing difficult conversations about our roles in perpetuating systemic racism and bias between ourselves and within our communities. There is no place in our community for violence or bias, only for the protection of constitutional rights and the safety of every person exercising them.
As we continue to reflect and engage in dialogue about No Kings, we remain committed to community-oriented nonviolent action and education. We hope you will continue to join us in working to create a more just, equitable, and peaceful society by sitting with the hard realities and truly listening to our BIPOC community members about their experiences.
Together, we are powerful
