What We Are Up To

BEND, Ore. — 50501 Central Oregon will bring community members together at Drake Park on Saturday, October 17, for No Kings: Vote Early, part of a nationwide day of nonpartisan voter participation centered on a simple principle: the people decide our elections.

For more than a year, millions of people across the country have joined No Kings actions to reject unaccountable power. On October 17, the movement is taking the next step, turning people power into voter power and making sure eligible voters are prepared to make their voices heard.

“In America, we have no kings. The people choose their leaders. No politician or president gets to decide who wins an election. That power belongs to voters, and October 17 is about making sure people are prepared to use that power at the ballot box,” said Dana Madison, an organizer with 50501 Central Oregon.

The Bend event will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Drake Park with a community gathering expected to include speakers, music, conversation, and opportunities for participants to connect and share the messages they bring to the event. At 2:00 p.m., participants will march to the Peace Corner, followed by a public visibility action from approximately 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

The October 17 mobilization comes as Oregon voters prepare to receive and return their ballots. The event is not a voting or ballot collection site. It is a nonpartisan day of action focused on helping eligible voters understand their options, make a plan to vote, and learn how they can participate in protecting free and fair elections.

No Kings: Vote Early is designed to increase participation among all eligible voters, regardless of party or political viewpoint. Our communities are strongest when everyone who is eligible to vote has a plan, knows their options, and follows through.

The work also extends beyond casting a ballot. October 17 and Election Day are not the finish line. No Kings will continue organizing and mobilizing beyond Election Day to help ensure every vote is counted, election results are properly certified, and every voice is heard.

No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings. We Decide.
